ABOUT MOOT COURT

Moot court is an extracurricular activity at many law schools in which participants take part in simulated court proceedings, usually involving drafting memorials or memoranda and participating in oral argument. In most countries, the phrase moot court may be shortened to simply moot mooting. Participants are referred to as mooters. Moot court is one of the key extracurricular activities in many law schools (the others being law review and clinical work). In most moot competitions, each side is represented by two speakers (though the entire team composition may be larger) and a third member, sometimes known as Researcher, may be seated with the speakers. Each speaker usually speaks between 10 and 25 minutes, covering one to three main issues. After the main submissions are completed, there will usually be a short round of rebuttal and even surrebuttal. Depending on the format of the moot, there may be one or two rounds of rebuttal and surrebuttal. Throughout the course of the submissions, judges may ask questions.

OBJECTIVES

• To impart the practical skills of research,
• Case analyses and strategy, witness handling, and presentation of arguments at the trial and appellate stages of a case.
• To provide atmosphere for enhancing lawyering skills.
• To build confidence to speak in court.
• To create the opportunity to meet and mingle with students from all over India and compete.
• To learn to work in a team.
• To inculcate leadership qualities.

MOOT COURT INFRASTRUCTURE

In order to provide the best environment for mooting a dedicated Moot Court room (i.e. a replica of Court room) has been built in the college, where moot court competitions are being organized by the Moot Club regularly.

RCL ACHIEVEMENTS

FURTHER PLANS:
The moot court club does not limit itself to intra-college activities. It also trains students for national and international moot court competitions. It regularly organizes interuniversity moot courts, debates, and case presentation competitions. One of our prime focus for the rest of this academic year would be to familiarize and encourage the first-year students to take up mooting to preserve and build on the mooting culture we have in RCL. We would be organizing various activities namely Demo moots, Moot Workshops, Intra Moot courts for first and second years.
Another prime focus or moot court club would be organizing the National Moot court competitions. This year, we are striving to take it to new heights to take it at par with other prestigious international and national law moots.
In addition to that, CLUB would also be organizing the regular classes of moots for all the semesters for the proper training of our students.
