About NIRF
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) received approval from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and was officially launched by the Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015.
This framework delineates a methodology designed for the ranking of institutions nationwide. The methodology is derived from comprehensive recommendations formulated by a Core Committee appointed by the MHRD, aimed at identifying the broad parameters used to rank various universities and institutions. These parameters encompass "Teaching, Learning and Resources," "Research and Professional Practices," "Graduation Outcomes," "Outreach and Inclusivity," and "Perception."
The inaugural India Rankings under this framework were unveiled on April 4, 2016.
For the subsequent India Rankings in 2017, the primary ranking parameters remained consistent, with some notable changes in specific sub-parameters. Additionally, this year, every large institution will receive both a common overall rank and a discipline-specific rank, where applicable.
